Have You Been Struggling with Hair Loss?
I Certainly Have…
Recently I did a TikTok with my hair loss struggle. This is something new that I’ve had to deal with. My hair is usually pretty thick and I’ve never really had a problem with losing hair. But now, it’s gotten to the point where I really don’t look forward to brushing my hair in the morning because it’s scary to see your hair fall out in the brush - this much.
Instead of resorting to hair-growing medications, I’m going to try some natural approaches to help prevent hair loss and get my hair to grow a little faster and to fill in my thin areas.
I started seeing that there were a lot of people experiencing hair loss and thought it would be helpful for people who were looking for alternatives to OTC medications to try some natural, easy-to-do things to “heal” your body with nutritional products.
So…here are some of the ways I’m going to approach stopping hair loss - naturally.

Okay…so here’s the plan…My Two-Punch System: Collagen and Homemade Bone Broth for Natural Hair Growth
Hair loss affects so many people around the world these days. It can be genetics, hormones, illness, or lifestyle factors that contribute to hair loss. We’re all searching for remedies to boost hair retention/growth and combat hair loss.
Over the last few years, collagen supplements have become super popular. In this post, we will talk about how collagen supplements can help with hair health and introduce another natural remedy: Homemade Bone Broth. This nutritious homemade “ magic elixir” (as I like to call it) is rich in collagen and offers many benefits, including promoting hair growth and preventing hair loss.
Collagen and Hair Health
Did You Know? Collagen is one of the most abundant proteins in the human body and plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy hair, skin, and nails. Hair strands are primarily composed of a protein called keratin, and collagen provides essential amino acids that support hair growth and strength. Collagen contributes to hair health in the following ways:
1. Amino Acids: Collagen is a rich source of essential amino acids, including proline, glycine, and arginine. These amino acids are fundamental for building and repairing hair follicles.
2. Enhanced Blood Circulation: Collagen supports overall circulatory health, improving blood flow to the scalp. This increased circulation ensures essential nutrients reach hair follicles, promoting hair growth.
3. Antioxidant Properties: Collagen contains amino acids like glycine and proline, which possess powerful antioxidant properties. These antioxidants help protect hair follicles from oxidative stress, reducing hair damage and promoting healthy growth.
Proteins in Collagen and the Benefits
Collagen is comprised of various proteins, each offering unique benefits for the body. Let's explore these proteins and their roles:
1. Collagen Type I: The most abundant type of collagen in the body, Collagen Type I is found in the skin, tendons, and bones. While primarily supporting skin health, it indirectly contributes to hair health by improving skin quality and blood flow to the scalp.
2. Collagen Type II: Predominantly found in cartilage, Collagen Type II is essential for joint health. While not directly impacting hair, maintaining overall health can indirectly benefit hair growth.
3. Collagen Type III: This type is found in the skin, blood vessels, and organs. Collagen Type III promotes skin elasticity and supports scalp health, thereby benefiting hair health.
4. Collagen Type IV: Commonly found in the skin's basement membranes, Collagen Type IV contributes to skin health and can create a favorable environment for hair follicles, indirectly impacting hair health.
5. Collagen Type V: Present in hair and placenta, Collagen Type V is directly related to hair health. It plays a significant role in hair follicle formation and maintenance, crucial for healthy hair growth.
Homemade Bone Broth: A Natural Hair Loss Remedy
In addition to collagen supplements, especially the powdered form, I’m incorporating homemade bone broth into my diet for its numerous benefits, including preventing hair loss and promoting hair growth.
Here's how homemade bone broth can help:
1. Collagen-Rich: Bone broth is naturally abundant in collagen, derived from simmering bones and connective tissues. Consuming bone broth provides your body with the necessary collagen to strengthen hair follicles.
2. Nutrient-Rich: Bone broth is a source of essential vitamins and minerals, such as biotin, iron, and zinc, which are all critical for hair health. These nutrients nourish hair follicles, reducing hair loss.
3. Anti-Inflammatory: The amino acids in bone broth help reduce inflammation, which can contribute to hair loss. A diet with reduced inflammation is essential for promoting hair growth.
4. Improved Gut Health: A healthy gut is linked to healthy hair, as nutrient absorption is optimized. Homemade bone broth can aid in gut health, ensuring that your body can effectively utilize the nutrients necessary for hair growth.
Collagen supplements and homemade bone broth offer natural solutions to enhance hair growth and prevent hair loss. By incorporating these natural solutions into your daily diet and embracing a more natural approach to hair health, you can take steps toward maintaining your hair and promoting a good base for encouraging hair retention and growth.
How long does it take for collagen and bone broth to work for hair growth?
It can take some time to see results, it unfortunately will not happen overnight. Most people can see some hair sprouting results in 2-3 months initially. But I figure, time will pass anyway, and drinking bone broth and collagen is a great benefit to so many things in the body. It can even help with keeping your skin in good shape so it’s less prone to wrinkles and sagging and promotes joint health. This all sounds good to me! So, “Cheers!” as I drink my bone broth and collagen with a pinky-up - fancy style.
FYI - I have been taking it (both collagen & bone broth) for about 2 weeks so far, and my nails are definitely stronger and are growing nicely. Hair loss seems to have slowed down a bit so that is encouraging. Don’t see any new hair sprouting, yet…but I know this will take a little time.
So stay tuned…I’ll be posting more on my journey into growing back my hair…we’ll see how it goes.
